5 Ways To Survive Your First Week At A New Job
Starting a new job can be very scary. I recently just started a new position and I have to tell you I was terrified. It has been over two weeks and I have some tips in helping you deal with your first week!
It is more than normal to be a little anxious. I was very nervous before I started. Just know that they choose you for this position. They believe that you are qualified for this job and they want you there. Keep telling yourself that every time you feel scared or nervous.
Take notes, take lots of them. Whoever is training you will be throwing a lot at you and it will be impossible to be trained on everything in a few short days. So bring a note book, pen, and highlighter, trust me you will thank me later.
Get enough sleep in your first week. I say this because you need to be at your sharpest during the first week. There is so much information to absorb that if you are sleep deprived, you will miss out on important stuff.
Ask lots and lots of questions. When we first start at a new job, it can be nerve wrecking to ask questions. We are often afraid of looking dumb or sounding dumb but this is the time to get those questions out of the way. When you’re in the thick of it, there will be no one there to give you the full help you may need; so ask your questions.
Take a deep breath, as I have mentioned before, new jobs are nerve wrecking and also exciting! But it can also be so overwhelming, just take a deep breath. Whatever happens, it is not the end of world. It will be okay…trust me!
I hope these tips were helpful, I find that even in my third week of work, I am still using these tips!
