5 Movies That Are Better Than The Books They Are Based On
“Speak”: This movie is a powerful one and the book is too! The book has helped so many people come to terms with sexual assault. It has such a powerful message and looks at a story that is often not told in the YA genre. I read the book and found it to be very slow moving and although it was a good read, there were parts that I didn’t like. I watched the movie and I felt strongly that the movie did the book justice. The adaption was well done and the meaning of the story and the whole plot came across way better in the movie then in the book. Also Kristen Stewart brought the character of Melinda to life in away that was missing in the book.
“Divergent”: I went to watch this movie when it came out. I liked the movie and I liked the whole concept of the story. So I decided to pick up the book and read it. I found the book to be awful, it was slow, the concept of the different fractions was badly written and explained, and the characters were boring and held no real interest. Then I watched the movie again and felt that the concept of the book was adapted more clearly in the film. The characters were way more interesting and the movie brought the adventures of Tris to life.
“Mocking Jay Part”: I love the “Hunger Games Series” the first and second books were amazing and the movies did both of those books great justice. The last book “Mocking Jay” was boring and drawn out. It had parts that could have been cut out and at some certain points, things happened so quickly its hard to keep up. But the movie did an amazing job at showing the best parts of the book and leaving out the overdrawn, boring, and not needed parts. Frankly, the movie was way better than the book. I didn’t think it needed to be spilt into two films, but the first part was amazing.
“The Perks of Being A Wallflower”: The book is written in letterform and it gives an intimate look at a young boy who is struggling with mental illness. I loved the book and I thought it was amazing. But the movie was adapted so well. It is hard to adapt a book that is written in letter form; but they did and did a great job at it. It was well done in every way. The movie was amazing and touching and portrayed the story beautifully.
“Breaking Dawn Part 2” I was a huge fan of the “Twilight” movies. In my books, they could never go wrong. But in the last film, there is a fighting scene that was not in the book. The ending of the book was a bit of a let down and the movie brought it to life and gave a beautiful twist that ended the saga beautifully.
